The evening will be one for music fanatics to remember for years to come. Recently reunited, The Ponys take the stage together for a legendary show. In The Whale, just off a national tour, grace the Austin music scene with their tireless, raw presence. The duo is sure to electrify the crowd with their high-energy rock performance. And local music lovers will be ecstatic to get the opportunity to hear BLXPLTN as they are welcomed back home to play their quintessential punk rock tunes at their first show back in Austin in a long while.

About The Ponys: As year 2000 drew to a close, singer/guitarist Jered Gummere and bassist Melissa Elias decided it was time. They recruited drummer Nathan Jerde and THE PONYS started playing around Chicago, eventually recording two singles in 2002. These found their way into the hands of In The Red’s Larry Hardy, who signed the band, prompting them to add Ian Adams on keyboards and guitar, so as to better duplicate their layered recorded sound live. THE PONYS’ debut LP, “Laced With Romance,” was recorded with Jim Diamond in Detroit and released in February 2004 to great acclaim, NME calling it “a dirty-sounding mess of post-punk choppiness, ear-searing Farfisa organ and timeless teenage snarling.” After months of constant touring, they slipped into Chicago’s Electrical Studios with Steve Albini for Celebration Castle, released in May 2005. Rolling Stone said, “While other indie bands fuss themselves into a lather straining to redefine the templates of ‘garage rock’ or ‘post-punk,’ The Ponys just get it the hell done.” Just before the release of Celebration Castle, however, Ian decided that touring life was not for him, and he was replaced by guitarist and local charmer Brian Case. Matador finally got their hands on THE PONYS and, dragging them off the road for a while, got them in Electrical Studios and Brooklyn’s Headgear Studios in September 2006 with John Agnello to record “Turn The Lights Out.”  Sexy and exuberant, this is a sound which references so many of the great twin-guitar bands of the ‘60s, ‘70s, ‘80s and ‘90s, but resists definition.

About In The Whale: In the Whale is a high energy, two-piece rock band hailing from Denver, Colorado. Members Nate Valdez (vocals and guitar) and Eric Riley (drums and backing vocals) have been making no nonsense, balls-to-the-wall rock songs since they formed the band in 2011.  Since then, the two have stayed busy exploring the seedier sides of Denver that inspires their music. In 2012 they released their first EP, “Cake,” and followed it up with the EP, “Eric,” in the late fall of 2013. In between those two releases they played with a stupid number of artists you’d happily phone home about. In addition to sharing stages with bands like Murder By Death, Local H, Reverend Horton Heat and Electric Six in their hometown, the band has hit the road and played alongside The Airborne Toxic Event, Agent Orange, Jane’s Addiction and Slash. In the Whale released their third EP titled “Nate” in April 2014 and will continue relentlessly touring until they have conquered everything. For more information, please see:

About BLXPLTN: BLXPLTN (Blaxploitation), from Austin, Texas, has been described as having a politically-charged punk industrial sound. Audience reactions to live shows range from headbanging and moshing to drop-jawed, drooling disbelief. These multi-instrumentalist music veterans are quickly gaining recognition and support both locally and nationally by those attracted to both their radical sound and their championing of social justice for people of color, the LGBTQ community and the generally disenfranchised, forgotten members of society. Their debut record, “Black Cop Down,” produced by Autry Fulbright (…Trail of Dead, Vanishing Life) and Elliott Frazier (Ringo Deathstarr), with early tracking by the late Ikey Owens (The Mars Volta, Jack White), was released in October 2014. In 2015, BLXPLTN debuted two new tracks from their new record, “New York Fascist Week.” For more information, please see:
